Four high school students and the spirits of Chiba fight monsters that suddenly appear in their hometown. A fantasy RPG where modern Japan meets local legend, built on real Chiba folklore. One developer, ten years. Turn-based, 3-6 hours. Japanese & English.
Monsters have suddenly appeared, and Chiba has lost its peace. With the power of the spirits and the courage of friends, take back the city's future.
MAKAI CITY CHI-BA is a modern-meets-legend fantasy RPG built on the folklore of Chiba. Using the place names, history and legends of Chiba Prefecture as its motifs, it follows four high school students as they close in on the truth about "CHI-BA."
Chiba is just east of Tokyo. It is a big-city prefecture with a quiet countryside, a long coastline and a lot of nature. Narita Airport is in Chiba, so many visitors to Japan land here, and then head straight to Tokyo without ever seeing Chiba itself.
But Chiba holds a surprising number of strange old legends. I made this game so that more people can discover them.
Chiba is thrown into chaos by monsters that suddenly appear. The four students have no swords and no magic. They borrow the protection of the spirits of Chiba and step forward to fight.
But as the story goes on, a city that is somehow hard to reach and small mismatches in people's memories begin to surface. The truth hidden within Chiba itself slowly comes into view.
A strategic turn-based system where you spend MP (Material Points) to unleash special skills. Kendo finishers, science experiments, cheering allies on and healing potions: each of the four characters fights in a different way.
The scenario is based on real place names, folk tales and history. The more you play, the more "another Chiba" appears.
This edition upgrades the mobile version released in Japan.
About 3-6 hours.
It is not a legendary hero who saves Chiba. It is your choices, and your bond with your friends.
