About

REAL CHESS, 16-BIT SOUL

GRID64 is chess in pixel art, pure black and white, with frosted-glass panels and rounded corners drawn pixel by pixel. Full rules: castling, en passant, promotion with piece choice, stalemate, threefold repetition and the 50-move rule. Every sound you hear — music and effects — is synthesized in code, the way 16-bit consoles did it.

FOUR WAYS TO PLAY

Puzzles — mate-in-one and mate-in-two positions to train your eye, with a hint when you get stuck.

Versus AI — three levels. On Easy it blunders like a human; on Hard it thinks up to 8 moves ahead, knows its openings and never hangs a piece.

Online — random matchmaking with players worldwide, 10 minutes each. Lost your connection? You have 30 seconds to come back and resume the same game.

Arena tournaments — one every 30 minutes, 20 minutes long, 3-minute games. Join any time: finish a game and you are paired again instantly.

RATING, RANKING AND CARDS

Every online game is rated with Elo, the same system used in official chess, calculated on the server. Climb the global ranking and fight for the tournament podium.

Every tournament player earns a pixel-art card. Third place takes a rare card, second an epic one, and the champion takes the Gold card — the only colored thing in the entire game. Twenty-four cards in all: six pieces across four rarities.
