A Soul Monsters Side Story — The Priestess Tales
Long before travellers came to the Water Realm, its Priestess was a young mermaid of the Nere who could only sing. This is how Ariel became the Queen of the Sea.
No harpoon. No net. Only a song.
Ariel carries no weapon. In the sea there is only one thing to do: go closer.
Sing, feed, stroke, play, spar, or simply wait. Which of the six works depends on each creature's temper — a song will not reach something fierce.
What you kill can never be your friend.
Only as far as your breath allows
Breath, Scales and Load pull on each other. Carry too much and you slow down; slow down and you burn more breath. Past your depth limit, breath drains fast.
From Midwater on, currents push you — ride one to save breath, fight it and you waste it.
Nine hand-made seas
Shallows, Coral Garden, Midwater, Shipwreck, Sea Cave, Night Sea, The Depths, Glacier and Hydrothermal Vents — each with its own pixel-art reef and its own music.
Layouts are hand-made and cycled, not procedurally generated, so a second visit feels like a return. 96 fish and 26 souls live in their own waters.
Fight with spells — and nothing dies
Nine guardians, each twice Ariel's size or more, block the way. They fire shots, sweep spreads, ram, bite — and three dragons breathe roaring water jets.
Pick a spell with 1–4 and aim it with the mouse. Each spell has its own cooldown:
- Surge — a fast water bolt
- Whirl — stops a ram
- Glow — breaks a bite
- Scale Ward (right-click) — reflects shots and water jets
Break an attack and an opening appears — a Surge that lands in it hits three times as hard. Spells cost breath, so every moment asks the same question as the dive: press on, or go up?
Break a guardian's resolve and it gives way rather than falls. From then on you can approach it and befriend it. Ariel cannot die either — when her breath runs out she simply surfaces.
At night — the Sea of Friends
Every friend you bring home goes to the tank of its own waters. Warmth, light and company must suit it; pack a tank to 100% and no eggs are laid and bonds start to fray.
Decorate each tank with 16 kinds of reef pieces across 8 spots, and hide the filter behind rocks and coral — visitors notice.
Visitors leave Renown, the only currency in this sea: upgrades, new tanks and the pedlar's wares all come from it.
Mermaid → Princess of the Sea → Queen of the Sea
Days alone will not do it, and neither will pushing one thing. Friends, Renown, the guardians and the aquarium are counted together.
And Megnis, the Sea Dragon God, is never a fight at all. He asks. What you earn is not power but a title — a reward to wear, not to wield.
