Play offline chess in a club of your own—with familiar rivals, tournaments to compete in, and a history that grows with every game. Chess Folk brings together fictional computer opponents, guided lessons, game analysis, and 2D or 3D boards. Play at your own pace, without waiting for online matchmaking.
Discover more than 300 fictional opponents, each with a portrait, nationality, biography, and playing style. Face patient defenders, bold attackers, and Susu the Panda. Find opponents by name, country, or in-game rating, and return for a rematch against familiar rivals.
Create round-robin, Swiss-system, or knockout tournaments with up to 64 players. Choose opponents by nationality and rating, follow pairings and standings, and keep your tournament history. Enter recurring events at illustrated venues inspired by chess around the world.
Play rated games against the computer and track your in-game rating, results, and match history. Review wins, draws, losses, and opening statistics. Create separate local player profiles so everyone keeps their own progress.
Chess Folk ratings measure progress within the game; they are not official federation ratings or equivalent to FIDE ratings.
Follow guided lessons with explanations and animated moves. Explore openings and common replies with the Opening Explorer. Use Game Review to identify inaccuracies, mistakes, missed chances, and blunders, then revisit key positions to see what you could have played differently.
Play on a clear 2D board or explore the 3D view. Personalize your board and pieces with different themes. Use the Chess Set Workshop to import piece artwork, assemble your own set, and export it to share.
Choose bullet, blitz, rapid, classical, or custom time controls, with increment, delay, and multi-period options.
For local two-player chess, share the same computer and play with a guest or two saved profiles. Computer matches and offline tournaments do not require an internet connection.
Whether you’re learning the rules, practising an opening, or chasing a tournament victory, Chess Folk gives you a chess club to return to—one game at a time.
