Shrimpscape is a detailed shrimp keeping and freshwater aquarium simulation built around the two things that decide whether a colony thrives: what is hidden in your shrimp’s genes and what is dissolved in your water.

Design living aquascapes, maintain stable water conditions, raise Caridina and Neocaridina colonies, and selectively breed shrimp across generations. Every colour, pattern and rare phenotype comes from inherited genetics. Every successful clutch depends on the environment you create.

And when you want to see that environment up close, take control of a shrimp and explore your aquarium from within.

Genetics That Keep Secrets

Every shrimp carries a complete genotype across multiple interacting loci: the recessive Taiwan Bee gene, red and black base colour, the blue locus behind Blue Bolt, four additive loci controlling white coverage, four more affecting spot density, the Tiger gene behind the Pinto family, and an eye-colour locus where orange eyes must be inherited from both sides.

Nothing is selected from a loot table. Each offspring receives real genetic information from its parents.

Two ordinary-looking shrimp may carry hidden traits for several generations. Pair the right carriers and a rare phenotype can finally appear—not because the game rolled a reward, but because of the shrimp you chose to breed.

More Than 43 Million Possible Genotypes

Behind the 52 collectable morphs and 200 morph-and-grade phenotypes lies a genetic space of more than 43 million possible genotypes.

Every Caridina shrimp inherits genetic information across 15 two-allele loci and a separate eye-colour locus. Many of these genes can remain hidden inside ordinary-looking carriers before reappearing generations later.

You are not expected to breed every possible genotype. Even two shrimp with the same morph and grade can carry completely different hidden genes and breeding potential.

Water Decides Whether Any of It Happens

GH, KH, pH, TDS and temperature are connected directly to the life of your colony. They influence clutch size, breeding frequency, shrimplet survival, successful molts and adult mortality.

A genetically perfect pairing means little in an unstable aquarium. Genetics determines what the offspring could become. Water determines whether they survive long enough for you to find out.

Build the correct environment for each colony, monitor changing parameters and respond before a small imbalance becomes a failed generation.

Build an Aquarium, Not a Menu

Lay the substrate and shape the foundation of your tank. Place rocks and driftwood freely in 3D, attach plants where you want them, grow planted carpets, arrange stems and adjust the lighting.

Build your aquascapes inside three distinct aquarium sizes:

• 30 × 30 × 30 cm nano cubes for selective breeding pairs, quarantine tanks, specialised lines and compact colonies
• 60 × 30 × 34 cm aquariums for everyday colonies and planted layouts
• 120 × 45 × 45 cm display aquariums for large-scale aquascapes and established colonies

Rotate around each aquarium and inspect your composition from any angle. Every tank size presents a different amount of space, water volume and carrying capacity, so choosing a tank also affects how you develop and manage its colony.

Your aquarium is more than decoration. It is the habitat in which your shrimp feed, breed, hide and grow.

Swim between plants, climb across hardscape and explore the miniature passages created by your layout. Rocks and driftwood that seemed small while building the tank become an entire underwater landscape at shrimp scale.

The shop is a physical place instead of a popup menu.

Walk away from your aquarium and browse live shrimp in showcase tanks. Inspect livestock along one wall and choose plants, rocks and driftwood from the shelves on the other. Purchased items enter your inventory so you can carry them home and place them yourself.

The shrimp displayed in the shop use the same visual and genetic systems as the shrimp in your tanks. The colour, pattern and grade you inspect are the shrimp you receive.

Shrimp values are based on morph and grade. Rare, high-quality shrimp can become the foundation of a profitable breeding line, but the market reacts to what you sell.

Discover 52 Morphs and 200 Phenotypes

Raise Caridina and Neocaridina shrimp and work toward a collection of 52 distinct morphs, including a hidden rare morph that cannot be purchased or reliably inherited.

Morph is only the beginning. Different grading outcomes across these genetic lines create 200 distinct morph-and-grade phenotypes, ranging from S through SSS and G3 to G0. Pattern variations, colour quality and inherited eye colours make individual shrimp even more visually diverse.

The breeding journal records every morph, its possible grades and the crosses that can produce it. These routes are not manually written hints. The journal calculates them directly from the game’s genetics model.

If a genetic path exists, the journal can find it. Study possible pairings, follow hidden traits through multiple generations and plan your route toward the rarest shrimp.

Save Your Best Work

Use Photo Mode to document finished aquascapes, exceptional shrimp and the colonies you are most proud of. Build a gallery as your tanks and breeding lines develop—but keep your best photographs safe.

Aquascaping and shrimp competitions are planned for future updates. When entries open, those photographs may become your ticket to the competition.
