About

After paying off her debts and quitting her job, Hou Jue travels alone to a small town in southern China, carrying a folklore journal titled The Southern Record of the Si Xing.

The journal records that the people here have worshipped the Snake God for generations, preserving a set of snake-worshipping customs rarely known to outsiders. For Hou Jue, who believes she has lost any real purpose in life, this was meant to be a journey with no plans to return. Then she encountered “it.”

While recovering from her injury and searching for it, Hou Jue is reunited with a former classmate—“her”—and meets another “her” who runs the town’s general store. One claims to be a “Scale Witch” charged with serving it, while the other refuses to speak openly about the town’s rules. Both of them are helping Hou Jue, yet each seems to be hiding something.

One-Line Character Introductions
