Professional Video Editing Suite

Fast Movie Editor (FME) is a professional-grade native, hardware-accelerated video editing and production suite designed for all kinds of users. It supports short films, commercial campaigns, tutorials, podcasts, music videos, and long-form productions in one project-based environment. The application is designed to remain responsive as timelines, media collections, effects, and delivery requirements grow.

The Steam bundle includes Fast Movie Editor (FME), Fast Movie Renderer (FMR) and Fast Sound Editor Lite Edition (FSE) for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Each application can work independently, while their shared project and media workflows cover editing, capture, audio repair, transcoding, and final delivery. Editing and Timeline

FME provides multitrack video, audio, title, and caption editing with multiple sequences in each project. Sequences can be nested recursively, allowing complex sections to be edited as independent units and reused inside larger timelines. Independent Source and Output viewers support three-point editing and multi-monitor layouts, while thumbnails, waveforms, and optimized media are prepared in the background.

The timeline includes Source In and Out points, Insert and Overwrite editing, and drag-and-drop Insert, Overlay, Replace, and Overwrite zones. Dedicated tools cover ripple, roll, slip, slide, rate stretch, razor, lift, extract, nudging, linking, grouping, freeze frames, reverse playback, and speed changes. Every editing action enters a labeled History panel, and any visible history state can be restored directly.

Easy and Pro Sequences

Amateur users can edit videos without having to go through a steep learning curve: Easy Sequences provide storyboard-style editing for fast assembly. An Easy Sequence can be converted to a Pro Sequence in one step when a project requires complete track control. Each sequence can use its own resolution and frame rate, and sequences can be exported at different resolutions, aspect ratios, and frame rates for widescreen, vertical, square, portrait, and custom delivery requirements.

Color Correction, Filters and Looks

FME includes a dedicated Color workspace with color wheels and scopes beside the active frame. Histogram, waveform, and vectorscope views provide objective references for exposure, channel balance, contrast, saturation, and skin-tone decisions. The scopes update from the frame under the playhead, allowing correction and grading decisions to be made against the exact image being edited.

FME includes over a hundred Looks with instant preview. Looks provide production-ready starting points across cinematic, film, mood, black-and-white, and stylized treatments. A Look can be selected quickly and then refined with the Color controls and scopes, combining fast visual exploration with precise grading control.

Titles, Effects, and Transitions

Titles are ordinary clips on dedicated tracks, keeping their timing and overlap visible in the timeline. Text can be created and edited directly in the Output Viewer with a live compositor preview. Typography controls include font, size, weight, style, tracking, line height, alignment, bounding boxes, stroke, shadow, background boxes, and title-safe placement. Per-character, per-word, and per-line animation includes timing, easing, direction, and stagger controls. FME includes many title animations, transitions, and effects.

Media Organization

The Project panel provides List, Icon, and Freeform views for large media collections. Clips can be organized spatially, grouped in project folders, arranged in saved Freeform layouts, scrubbed from their thumbnails, and assigned custom poster frames. Folder-aware import, asynchronous local browsing, search, and direct operating-system drops keep media intake separate from timeline work.

Offline media remains visible with recovery instructions. Individual files or complete folders can be relinked without changing project identity. Background Optimized Media generation provides visible progress and cancellation, while final export returns to the original sources. Virtualized panels and bounded, clearable caches are designed for large projects without unbounded memory or storage growth.

Media and Format Support

FME supports professional and common media without requiring an intermediate conversion step. Video containers include MP4, MOV, MXF, MKV, AVI, WebM, MTS, M2TS, MPEG, and M4V. Audio support includes WAV, MP3, M4A, AAC, FLAC, OGG, Opus, AIFF, and CAF. Still-image support includes PNG, JPEG, TIFF, OpenEXR, BMP, HEIC, HEIF, and SVG.

Numbered stills can be imported as image sequences at a defined frame rate. FME can also create a timelapse from naturally ordered images or build a slideshow as separately editable still clips with optional transitions. This keeps image-based animation, photography, visual effects plates, and presentation work inside the same project and timeline model as video and audio.

GPU Compositing and Animation

Position, scale, rotation, anchor, opacity, crop, and effect parameters can be animated directly. On-canvas controls provide transforms, cropping, rotation, anchor adjustment, snapping, and editable motion paths. Spatial keyframes support Linear, Bezier, Auto Bezier, and Continuous Bezier interpolation. Value and Velocity graph editors provide precise control over Hold, Linear, and Bezier timing, multi-keyframe selection, retiming, duplication, and copy and paste between compatible properties.

The compositor is GPU accelerated, high precision, and linear light. Reduced viewer resolutions keep demanding timelines interactive while export remains full resolution. Rendered timeline previews are invalidated only for ranges affected by an edit. Preview and export use the same compositor graph, providing direct visual parity between the approved frame and the delivered result.

Audio, Narration, and Teleprompter

Detailed waveforms display both the RMS body and transient peaks of each audio clip. FME supports smooth scrub audio, forward and reverse shuttle audio, pitch-preserved slow playback and speed changes, marked-range looping, per-clip volume and pan, fades, filters, compression, and real-time timeline mixing. The Audio Meters panel displays up to eight channels with peak hold and independent clipping indicators. Beat detection places timeline markers for frame-accurate music editing.

The Narrate workspace records a microphone and optional camera while the sequence plays. Input device, destination track, count-in, sequence muting, and alignment correction are configurable before each take. A dockable teleprompter provides adjustable text, reading pace, display size, mirroring, and progress tracking. Completed audio and camera recordings are placed as one linked take, with Keep, Discard, and one-step Undo handling.

Export and Delivery

FME exports a complete sequence or selected range to H.264 or HEVC MP4, with hardware encoding when the system supports it. Match Sequence, 720p, 1080p, 4K, vertical, square, portrait, and high-quality master presets cover common delivery requirements. Resolution, frame rate, bitrate, profile, bit depth, chroma, audio, and keyframe interval remain configurable where supported by the codec. Multiple versions can be queued in the background while editing continues.

Export preflight detects missing or invalid inputs before rendering begins. Nested video and audio render recursively, and final output returns to the original media rather than optimized working copies. Output publication is atomic, and a canceled export does not replace an existing destination file.

Capture Studio Lite

Capture Studio Lite is built into the editor. It records screens, windows, cameras, capture cards, microphones, system audio, application audio, and supported network streams in one synchronized session. Each source is saved to its own isolated file, with no capture-time compositing, gain change, color transform, or frame-rate conform. Tutorials, podcasts, multi-camera productions, and live sessions retain clean original recordings for independent editing after capture.

Monitor one source at full quality or watch the complete rack in Multiview. Add markers, pause and resume, preserve measured sync, and keep visible dropped-frame and overrun counts. Fragmented video, continuously updated audio headers, and a session journal protect completed segments during an interruption. Every take can become an FME project automatically, already aligned on separate tracks and ready to review, arrange, edit, or render.

Fast Sound Editor Lite (FSE)

Fast Sound Editor Lite opens as a standalone application and as an audio-editing surface inside FME. It provides sample-accurate cuts, individual-channel editing, zero-crossing adjustment, fades, Mix Paste with controlled gain and crossfade, and Cut Preview auditioning without the selected region. Each edit is labeled, and Undo restores the selection, viewport, playhead, focus, and audio data.

The Spectral Frequency Display supports repair work defined by both time and frequency. Marquee, lasso, and paintbrush tools create spectral selections for attenuation or Spot Healing from surrounding information. Analysis panels measure frequency, sample peak, true peak, RMS, LUFS, DC offset, bit depth, and stereo phase. Processing preserves audio outside the selected region bit for bit.

Fast Movie Renderer (FMR)

Fast Movie Renderer turns finished sequences and standalone media into a durable production queue. Create several outputs from one source, reorder work, pause the queue, retry a failed output, recover interrupted jobs after restart, and choose how name collisions are handled before rendering begins. Watch folders can wait for new media to become stable, apply several presets, route each output to its own destination, and avoid duplicate or recursive jobs across restarts.

FMR includes 34 built-in presets and a reusable user-preset library. It covers delivery, mastering, audio, and still-image sequences with detailed controls for bitrate, two-pass encoding, bit depth, chroma, scaling quality, HDR-to-SDR tone mapping, LUTs, loudness normalization, captions, overlays, and metadata. Hardware acceleration, bounded parallel rendering, background operation, notifications, and a true command-line renderer support both workstation use and automated pipelines.

Workspaces and Interface

FME uses a native hardware-accelerated interface with dockable and tabbed panels. Each platform's foundations are tailor-made to use the recommended lowest level frameworks for maximum performance. The suite runs on DirectX on Windows, Metal and CoreGraphics on macOS and Vulkan on Linux. Panels can be split, rearranged, moved into floating native windows, docked again, and restored across launches. Browse, Easy, Dual-view, Edit, Narrate, Color, Audio, and Titles workspaces provide task-specific starting layouts, while custom workspace layouts can be saved and restored for individual productions or operators.

Quick Commands provides searchable access to application actions. Keyboard shortcuts are searchable, customizable, persistent, and checked for conflicts when assigned. Keyboard navigation extends across panels, lists, galleries, dialogs, and editors. Interface scaling from 75% through 200%, visible focus, accessible control names, high-contrast-aware controls, and designed empty, loading, unavailable, and error states support extended professional use.

Local-First Workflow and Automation with Agentic Accessibility

Your projects are ordinary versioned .fmeproj files. Media, previews, caches, autosaves, and recovery data stay on your machine or in folders you choose. Backup recovery protects damaged project state, and the applications explain missing media, unavailable devices, and failed jobs instead of silently starting empty.

The same professional workflows are available through the interface, a command-line application, and a built-in MCP server over local authenticated IPC. Scripts and agents call the same editor services as the UI, and automated edits enter the same labeled Undo history. Manual and automated operations can be combined in one project without maintaining separate workflow implementations.
