About

MOST SUDOKU GAMES GIVE YOU A MENU. THE SUDOKU WAY GIVES YOU A ROAD.

Begin a 53-station journey inspired by the old Tōkaidō. Rise through ten Dan ranks. Complete Japanese ink-wash paintings one box at a time, unlock new scenes and board materials, and build a permanent record of the way you solve.

Every puzzle is created fresh, held to one solution and certified from the opening clue to the final cell by a solver that uses human Sudoku logic only. No stored library. No guess-required boards. No difficulty labels based on clue count alone.

Play with a controller, keyboard, mouse or handwriting. Learn advanced techniques from the board itself. Discover whether a correct move was reasoned or merely lucky. Choose any difficulty in Free Play, or commit to The Way and see how far your logic can carry you.

Continuing variety. Deliberate logic. A fresh path every time you begin.

WHY THE SUDOKU WAY IS DIFFERENT

  • A road, not a pile of puzzles. Walk 53 stations, rise through ten Dan ranks and place completed, unaided roads on the global Steam leaderboard.
  • Fresh puzzles with a promise. Every board has one solution, requires no guessing and must satisfy the exact logical profile of its difficulty.
  • Controller-first play. Full controller input sits alongside mouse, keyboard and handwriting that learns each digit separately.
  • Know when you guessed right. The Luck system distinguishes a logically proven placement from a correct answer reached too early.
  • A painting completed as you solve. Reveal 43 Japanese-inspired scenes one box at a time, then watch the finished image come alive.

遊 SUDOKU THAT FEELS AT HOME ON A CONTROLLER

Controller support is not an afterthought. The entire game can be played with full controller input, while mouse and keyboard remain equally supported.

Prefer to write? The handwriting system learns the way you form each digit independently, so you can refine one troublesome number without retraining the rest.

道 53 STATIONS. TEN DAN RANKS. ONE HONEST ROAD.

The Way is a seeded journey inspired by the old Tōkaidō: 15 Novice boards, 14 Adept, 13 Master and 11 Sage. All 53 stations are fixed when the road begins, so leaving a station cannot reroll what waits farther along the path.

Across one road you will fill 2,447 empty squares. Complete the final station to earn your next Dan rank and begin again under a fresh seed. Every Dan permanently adds 10% to the XP earned from future boards, through ten ranks and the full journey of 満願.

Finish a road without assistance and it can enter the global Steam leaderboard, with one best entry per player. Ranked time is simply active play time plus 15 seconds for each misstep — no hidden multipliers, no XP advantage and no easier route to the top.

自由 PLAY ANY DIFFICULTY FROM THE START

Novice, Adept, Master and Sage are all available immediately. Nothing is locked behind The Way. Free Play uses the same generator, certification and difficulty promises, and wins still earn XP, medals, records and unlocks.

Use it to relax, chase a personal best, practise an unfamiliar technique with the guide or test yourself on a Sage board without committing to a full road.

運 DID YOU SOLVE IT — OR GET LUCKY?

A correct digit is not always a reasoned digit. The Luck system follows the same logical solver that graded the board. Place a correct number before the puzzle can logically prove that cell, and Luck records it.

Luck never reduces XP, changes your ranked time or punishes your score. It simply tells the truth: the answer was right, but your reasoning had not reached it yet.

Finish with Luck at zero and you know every placement was earned.

導 ASK THE BOARD WHY — NOT JUST WHERE

Free Play includes a layered guide built from the same solver that certified the puzzle. Help arrives one press at a time:

  • Name it. Learn which technique is available and which row, column or box deserves attention.
  • Show it. Highlight the cells and follow the logical relationship that makes the pattern work.
  • Apply it. Place the digit or remove the candidates that the technique rules out.

Stop after the first step and the puzzle remains yours. Continue only when you need more.

Guided boards still count, still award XP and still advance your progress, but they cannot earn a flawless bonus or extend a flawless streak. Once a placement is shown, that board's Luck reading is set aside — a move you were given cannot honestly be measured as one you reasoned out. The Way is an unaided challenge, so the guide remains in Free Play.

証 FRESH PUZZLES WITH A REAL DIFFICULTY PROMISE

There is no stored puzzle library. When you request a board, a bespoke engine constructs one for that seed, removes clues only while exactly one solution survives, and then hands the result to a separate logical solver.

That solver does not backtrack, search or guess. It must solve the puzzle using techniques a person can learn: naked and hidden singles, locked candidates, naked and hidden pairs, triples and quads, X-Wing, Swordfish, Jellyfish, Y-Wing, XYZ-Wing, W-Wing, simple colouring and XY-chains.

If the puzzle cannot be solved logically, it is rejected. If it has the wrong clue count, it is rejected. If a Sage seed calls for a wing, fish, colouring pattern or chain and the board does not genuinely satisfy that profile, it is rejected.

The difficulty label describes the route through the puzzle, not merely how empty the grid looks.

The system is versioned and reproducible, then audited at scale across 2,000 independent samples and all 530 stations across ten roads. A future tuning change cannot silently rewrite the puzzle you are playing or the road you already began.

景 COMPLETE THE PUZZLE. COMPLETE THE PAINTING.

Every grid rests over an ink-wash scene. Complete a 3×3 box and another region of the painting clears — sky, distance, water and shore. Complete the ninth and the finished scene comes alive.

There are 43 scenes to discover: 33 painted journeys through Japanese myth and folklore, plus 10 living compositions made from animated ink. Nine are available from the first board; the remaining 34 are earned through play.

  • 百鬼夜行 The Night Parade of a Hundred Demons — spirits and haunted objects cross a moonlit village.
  • 狐の嫁入り The Fox's Wedding Procession — lantern-bearing foxes pass through misty rice fields beneath a sunshower.
  • 天岩戸開き The Opening of the Heavenly Rock Cave — the gods gather to return sunlight to the world.
  • 竜宮城へ Journey to the Dragon Palace — Urashima Tarō rides through the currents towards the Dragon God's gate.

Choose which unlocked scenes remain in rotation, then play them across twelve board materials, from washi paper and indigo cloth to stone garden, tatami, celadon, gold lacquer and iron.

実績 42 ACHIEVEMENTS — AND EVERY ONE UNLOCKS SOMETHING

Every medal unlocks a scene or board material. None is an empty badge. All 42 also connect to Steam Achievements and remember the local date and time they were earned.

Earn them for Dan ranks, level milestones, speed, accuracy and unusual moments of play:

  • 疾風 Swift Wind — finish a board in under four minutes.
  • 雷光 Lightning — complete a Sage board in under fifteen minutes.
  • 九連打 Nine in a Breath — place nine correct digits inside twenty seconds.
  • 天元 Tengen — place the final digit in the centre cell.
  • 背水 Backs to the Water — complete a Sage board without a misstep.

記 YOUR PROGRESS WAITS FOR YOU

Every mode and difficulty tracks boards solved, average and best times, average missteps, flawless boards and the current flawless streak. Wins award XP, with a bonus for flawless play.

Leave halfway through a puzzle and it is saved exactly as it stands — answers, pencil notes, missteps and active time — ready for you whenever you return.

Twenty-one original tracks move through bamboo flute, koto, still water and rain on paper screens, with separate music and sound-effect controls.

静 WALK THE ROAD. LEARN THE LOGIC. EARN EVERY SQUARE.

  • A bespoke generator with no stored puzzle library
  • Unique-solution construction and certified no-guess solving
  • Four difficulties with exact clue counts and required technique profiles
  • A Luck system that separates logical progress from correct guesses
  • A layered guide that teaches techniques on live boards
  • Full controller, mouse, keyboard and handwriting input that learns each digit separately
  • The Way: 53 stations and ten Dan ranks
  • Free Play at any difficulty with nothing locked
  • 43 scenes, 12 board materials and 42 Steam Achievements
