About

Words are weapons

Draw a random hand of letters. Piece together a word. Hurl it at an enemy. Spellk is a turn-based word-combat roguelite where rare letters hit harder and strange items change your plans. Find the Catchphrase Carrot, choose a word—even one you made up—and spell it for +150% damage. “FLORB” just became a tactical decision.

Nearly four years after the beloved original launched as a free web game, Spellk returns on Steam as a ground-up remaster—greatly expanded with new items, enemies, mechanics, companions, an unfolding story, and online co-op.

Change what makes a good word

Grapes of Grandiloquence make every letter after the fourth hit harder. A Wordsteel Dagger rewards consecutive words that share any letter: play BLAZE, then HEAL, in one turn for bonus damage.

Boost particular letters, remove unwanted ones, and make your favorites appear more often. Build for long words, linked words, or that ridiculous catchphrase you're determined to make work. With different items, the same handful of letters can send you hunting for a completely different word.

Use potions to add the missing letter, redraw an awkward hand, or buy one more turn.

A huge vocabulary helps. A clever build can matter just as much.

Keep the build alive

Beat enemies before your combat turns run out. Fight through regions, defeat their bosses, and choose rewards that shape your next fight. Complete the Hewn Below to take your build into Endless and see how far it holds up.

Every new run starts a fresh build. Try another combination; the pets you've unlocked are yours to keep.

Four hands. One attack.

Play solo or bring up to three friends in online co-op. Everyone gets their own letter hand, items, and potions. Compare your options, lock in your words, and unleash your attacks together.

More players mean tougher enemies—and more ways to combine your builds into one absurd round.

Pets with something to say

Unlock pets with their own ideas about combat. A rat helps you spot useful words you might have missed. A parrot repeats past spells for bonus damage. A snake stretches the S's in your words to make them hurt more.

The calico cat contributes by meowing at your enemies. Unlock its longer outburst for a considerably louder opinion.

Make every letter hurt.
