Description

Checkmate is a turn-based Xiangqi roguelite where a lone red general carries a cannon into a 9×10 battlefield. Move to reload, fire risky snap shots, aim for precision, and use enemy pieces as firing screens. Each upgrade also strengthens the opposing army.

About

Checkmate is not traditional Chinese chess. It is a cannon-blazing roguelite fought across a 9×10 battlefield.

Take control of Red’s last General and survive an overwhelming enemy army. Move, brace your cannon, reload and fire. Use enemy pieces as cannon screens, calculate each blast radius, and choose between the risk of a scattered quick shot and the precision of an aimed attack.

Every Action Advances the Battle

Moving, firing and upgrading all give the enemy another chance to act. Chariots, horses, cannons and soldiers close in according to their own rules—and a single mistake may leave your General with no escape.

Power Always Has a Price

Choose cards that improve your firepower, range, ammunition and special tactics. At the same time, the enemy gains new abilities, units and rule changes. The stronger your build becomes, the more dangerous the board grows.

Fight Your Way Out

  • Turn-based tactical combat on a 9×10 board
  • Cannon fire, aimed attacks, reloading and melee combat
  • Extensive card builds and rule combinations
  • Evolving enemy armies and mounting endgame pressure
  • Multiple piece skins and achievement challenges
  • A single-player campaign and endless challenges

Break through the encirclement, blast open the palace and bring down the enemy General.
