About

Begin with empty hands. End with a world-spanning factory powered by the atom.

You awaken in a quiet forest with no tools and one extraordinary machine in your backpack: the Factory Engine. Gather your first wood and stone, forge a pickaxe, raise a boiler, and turn a patch of grass into the heart of an industrial network built entirely by you.

2D Factory is a top-down automation game about transforming work you once did by hand into production lines that run, grow and solve problems on their own. There is no combat and no countdown—only a vast procedural world, a clear goal, and as much time as you want to design something brilliant.

Automate every task you once had to do yourself

Carry ore by hand, then replace the trip with a mining bot. Feed a furnace, then build belts and routers that do it for you. Upgrade to electric drills, trains, industrial storage and construction drones until an entire region keeps working while you explore somewhere else.

Every new system answers a need you have actually felt. Better tools shorten gathering. Vehicles conquer distance. Batteries stabilize your grid. Blueprints let you expand without dismantling a working factory. Progress feels powerful because you remember doing it all yourself.

Rise through five industrial tiers

  • Steam: pump water, burn coal and drive furnaces, presses and rolling mills.
  • Electricity: wire your own grid, refine aluminium, produce silicon, and balance solar, wind, coal and batteries.
  • Steel: master blast furnaces, acid chemistry, advanced circuits, greenhouses and electric rail.
  • Polymer: extract crude oil from the tundra, refine plastic and power heavy industry with oil.
  • Atomic: enrich uranium, seal fuel rods, manage nuclear waste and feed turbines with reactor steam.

Each Core milestone opens a new biome and a new industrial age. Earlier materials remain useful, so your old factory becomes the foundation of the next one instead of obsolete scenery. Complete the Atomic Core to reach the finale—then keep building, chase 71 achievements, or begin again in the unlocked Sandbox mode.

Make everything move

Build four generations of conveyor belts and configure every machine side as an input, output or closed port. Standard routers split and merge fairly; advanced routers add filters, priorities, exact throughput limits and overflow outputs.

Move water, steam, acid and crude oil through material-specific pipes and large tanks. Branches share fluid fairly instead of silently starving the last machine in line. Wire generators, poles, batteries and consumers into power grids where shortages are distributed across the whole network.

When the factory outgrows walking distance, sail, drive a coal or electric rover, and build working rail lines. Steam locomotives pull three wagons; electric locomotives pull five. Carry items and fluids between stations—or eventually fold distance itself with player and freight teleportation.

Explore for power, never for permission

Five land biomes form a changing journey from forest and desert to mountains, frozen tundra and volcanic badlands, followed by an open outer ocean. Each region brings new resources, vegetation, weather and industrial challenges.

Hidden across that world are 22 survey sites. Finding them unlocks the right to purchase 25 completely optional improvements: larger field bags, faster tools, wider map reveal, geological scanning, longer power lines, doubled storage, measurable pipe valves, faster trains and machines, stronger pumpjacks, magnetic logistics, global observation and more. None is required to finish the game; every one makes your factory or your life better.

Expand without tearing everything down

The Construction Planner copies an empty, fully configured factory layout while the original keeps running. Start with 8×8 plans and grow to 32×32. Recipes, machine settings, routers, valves and internal wiring are preserved—contents are not duplicated. At the highest level, construction drones can fetch missing parts directly from every storage unit installed in your Factory Engine.

Build a cleaner production block beside the old one. Repeat a proven module. Move into the next biome without spending an evening rebuilding every setting by hand.

A world that keeps changing around your machines

Day becomes night. Seasons pass. Rain, storms, snow and volcanic ash reshape the atmosphere and affect solar production. Lakes freeze in the tundra and must be broken open for water. Farm flax, hemp and cactus, improve the soil, enable automatic replanting, or build greenhouses that harvest renewable crops—even whole trees—without supervision.

The pixel-art world is alive with animated machinery, flowing resources, changing light, weather, fish and fireflies. Ten original ambient tracks leave room to think, then return when the moment is right.

Understand the factory you built

Open a journal whose recipes, machine values and technology trees come from the same data that runs the simulation. Search a layered world map, place personal waypoints, inspect production graphs, compare player statistics, locate stalled machines and see which missing resource is truly delaying your next Core.

Machines expose their recipe, efficiency, power, fluid, buffers and side configuration. Visible items move on belts, tanks show their level, pipes identify their contents, and working machines animate and sound different. The goal is depth you can read—not mysteries hidden behind the interface.

Build alone or bring a crew

Play solo or host online Steam co-op for up to eight players. Friends can join through a native Steam invitation or a six-character session code. World progression, discoveries, map fog, survey sites and upgrades are shared; each player keeps personal inventory, tools, statistics, exploration credit and Steam achievements between sessions with that host.

The host remains authoritative over the simulation, while every player receives the complete experience: factory interfaces, vehicles, weather, music, machine activity, item feedback, journal, map and statistics.

Deep automation, comfortable pacing

  • 127 recipes, 46 machines and vehicles, five tiers and a full endgame objective
  • No enemies, no combat and no reaction-time pressure
  • Save whenever you want, plus automatic saves and Steam Cloud
  • English, French, German and Spanish
  • Remappable keyboard controls, adjustable UI and text size, three colourblind modes and reduced flashing/motion
  • Independent volume controls for effects, player, machines, music, interface, ambience, weather and notifications

Your factory will not appear all at once. You will earn every moving part—and one day, you will stand back and watch a world that no longer needs your hands.
