About

What you do in this game is your own responsibility.

Do not ask the developer to save you.

Gear up in town and go down where the torchlight does not reach.

The dungeon is generated. The layout changes every time you go down, and the same place never comes back.

Over 8 million gear combinations lie on the floor. What a sword carries is unknown until you identify it.

Enemies come in packs. Once you are surrounded, there is no way out.

Subtitles in 96 languages. Full voice dubbing in 70.

Fire Field is an isometric hack and slash, made as a tribute to Diablo 1 and Ultima Online. The feel of a 1997 dark fantasy ARPG, rebuilt as it was.

What happens down there

  • A generated dungeon. The layout changes every time you go down
  • Over 8 million gear combinations. Five tiers: white, blue, purple, yellow, red
  • A paper doll. Weapon, shield, armor, helmet and boots all show on your character
  • Separate skill trees for the warrior and for the sorceress
  • 24 spells. What you learn and what you raise changes how you fight
  • A mastery system. The weapon you swing gets better, the shield you block with gets better. 11 of them for the warrior, 9 for the sorceress
  • One ally travels with you and levels with you. If he falls, a healing potion brings him back up
  • Summons that stand in front of you and fight
  • A boss waiting on every floor. The Grave Warden, Torry the Reaper, the Bone King
  • 95 kinds of enemies. Carrion eaters, skeletons, gargoyles, poison beasts, sorcerers
  • Rooms that only appear by chance. A torture chamber, a room of the headless, a monster pit, a treasure vault, fountains
  • Spare the people you meet, or kill them and strip their gear
  • Doors with no key. What opens them is something you work out down there yourself
  • Death is not the end. You become a ghost and wander the echoes left underground

Story

1997.

A great king burned to death in a flame called the Fire Field.

The one who killed him was Rainz.

The world hated him.

And yet a few people worshipped him as their savior.

Step into the northern graveyard where the king sleeps, as one of Rainz's people.

No one who goes below that graveyard comes back.

The truth of the king. The sin of Rainz. Or a curse handed down. Something sleeps under there.

What you can play now

Eight floors underground. Four down through the cathedral, four more through the catacombs below it.

Off that path lie two more areas, one of them hell.

Work you take in town runs all the way to the bottom.

100 Steam achievements.

Development

A solo project, made by a 45-year-old with no programming experience, using only the AI agent Claude Code.

No Unity, no Unreal. The engine and the map editor are custom built. Not one line of code was written by a human.

230,000 lines of code. Translation, dubbing and quality checks are all done with AI.

System

Windows.

Early Access

In Early Access, the ninth floor and below, more enemies and more story will be added.

Single player only for now. Steam Deck support, a Mac build and online co-op are on the plan.

AI-made games have been labeled as cheap, thin and churned out in bulk.

I am making this one to prove that label wrong: an AI-made game can still be a good game.
