About

THE 2003 LAN PARTY, REBUILT

There was a moment around 2003 that shooters have never quite got back to. A dozen people, one room, one switch. Everything readable at a glance. Offline.

Movement you learned in ten minutes and spent the next ten years mastering. Nothing to unlock, nothing to grind, no season to fall behind on. You joined, you played, and you argued about it afterwards and laughed while eating pizza and drinking soda.

That is the game Friends of Duty is built to run. Instant to join, honest about what killed you, and better with people whose names you actually know.

The engine is modern. The design brief is twenty-plus years old.

A SANDBOX, NOT A GAME

Friends of Duty is a set of reimagined mechanics from a bunch of games from the 2003 era and was created to support mods which brings the visuals to the game.

Friends of Duty ships with a specific tool that helps you export assets and generate a modpak from a specific game from that era, so you can start shooting right away!

That's only the beginning.

☾ THE DAY DOESN'T LAST FOREVER

Any map can be configured to run a full time-lapse through an entire day. Matches open in flat golden morning light and end somewhere very different.

Because night here is actually dark. A properly rendered star field, a moon that gives you almost nothing to see by, and everyone else out there somewhere. Footsteps carry. Muzzle flash is a flare pinned to your chest. Fire once and

the whole map knows exactly where you are. Or use a flashlight to illuminate the way, but this will definitely be your death sentence.

Some friends will go quiet and hunt. Others will hole up and wait for sunrise. Others will quickly turn their flashlight in the middle of the dark to make you laugh. Which one are you?

☀ YOUR SHADOW WILL BETRAY YOU

Players casts real-time shadows, and so does the entire map.

That rooftop you like on a bright afternoon? The players below can watch your shadow sprint across their ceiling. Sightlines you have had memorised for years now move with the sun, the alley that was safe at noon is a shooting gallery at dusk.

Cover has stopped being a fixed property of the map. It is a property of the map right now.

⧉ CLASSIC AND REIMAGINED

Two presentation profiles over one simulation.

Classic is the era as it was. Original feel, original pacing, no additions beyond a handful of quality-of-life fixes. If you came here for muscle memory, all of it is intact.

Reimagined keeps that gameplay exactly and gives it a modern face redesigned optics with proper depth of field, refined scopes, and a look that earns its place on a 2026 display without touching a single number underneath.

Same game. Pick your era.

⚙ BUILT FOR THE COUCH

Full Steam Input support with deep control customisation. Windows, Linux/SteamOS and macOS clients.
Fully compatible with SteamDeck. A LAN shooter from your sofa, with a controller you configured exactly the way you want it.

⚑ STEAM LOBBIES, NO SETUP

Native Steam integration throughout. Create a lobby, invite your friends through the overlay, play. Friends can drop into a match already in progress. No IP addresses, no port forwarding, no group chat full of "can you see my server?"

Dedicated server binaries are included for groups who want a permanent home.

⚠ PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU INSTALL

Friends of Duty is a shell. On its own it does not play. You need a content pack, and the honest way to get your first one is to generate it from a PC game you already own on the same machine.
The importer that ships with Friends of Duty automates that: point it at your installed copy, leave it running, and it produces a pack the game can play.

It is automated and the first run takes a while. The importer is available for Windows and Linux/SteamOS.
MacOS players can play with a pack, but will need one of the other two to generate one.

Supported sources are listed in the importer and on our community hub.

Friends of Duty does not condone or enable piracy. Generate packs only from software you legally own, on your own machine, for your own use. Do not distribute a pack you have generated — not to a friend, not onto a server, not anywhere.
