Congratulations, you're hired! Take on the role of a Project Manager and navigate the challenging path from managing a couple of freelancers to running a massive development department. Discover firsthand why perfect plans fall apart, deadlines are missed, and the biggest threat to your release is a broken coffee machine in the kitchen. And most importantly: YOU ARE NOT THE BIG BOSS!
This is not a classic top-down tycoon. The project manager is you! Walk around the office, catch the boss at work, run the processes from your own desk, drink coffee, clean up trash and talk to colleagues using active skills. Level up your project and people management skills to become an irreplaceable specialist.
Get projects from the boss, plan the team's workload, hire the specialists you need, handle unplanned customer support tickets and keep a close eye on deadlines. Nobody pays for an overdue project here! And once you've grown enough, sign agile contracts: a team with a lead works on its own, all you have to do is assemble it and keep the client happy.
Every analyst, developer or tester is a person with unique traits and interests. Build your dream team: make sure geeks don't sit next to jocks, and toxic employees don't poison the rest. Watch burnout and loyalty: the one you refused a raise will sooner or later hand in their notice.
You have energy and mood, and they affect everything. A tired PM doesn't run and doesn't motivate, and a gloomy PM drags down the whole office. In the evening you go back to your rented apartment: dinner, a shower, freelancing, a TV show or an early night. Furnish your home, plan your weekends, save up for a car. Above all, get enough sleep.
Expand to the big office with a meeting room and new desks. Hire an HR who will find exactly the person you order, a cleaner so you don't have to sweep yourself, and a sales department that brings in fatter projects. Introduce office policies, from free snacks to short Fridays. Short on money? Take a loan from the boss.
Build relationships with clients and grow your reputation. Complete the boss's tasks to earn his trust: it unlocks office upgrades and, of course, a raise for yourself. Dozens of events and multi-step stories will keep you on your toes, from an office romance to the boss asking you to walk his dog.
Can you close them all, keep the team sane and prove to management that you are the perfect Project Manager?
